President’s Report
February 19, 2011
January came in with a bountiful snow fall which
created many opportunities for ministry. We have
had overnight guest/s since January 18th.
There have been as many as 8 individuals visiting
at all hours seeking warmth, food and shelter. Two
individuals remain housed outdoors; one in a tent
and the other in the car parked in the parking
lot.
We had an opportunity to collaborate with Michael
Bolton Charities and Wallingford Youth and Social
Services as the financial fiduciary. Our efforts
enabled two local families to remain stably
housed. As an outcome of this endeavor Jackie, the
CEO of Michael Bolton Charities, and I have
drafted a letter which has been sent to Beth
Heinrich, newly appointed liaison between the
state’s nonprofit sector and the governor’s
office.
Marfha, Jasmine, Mary and I were able to represent
Master’s Manna on February 7th at the
State Capitol for the Connecticut Nonprofit
Association’s Week. We were one of 32 nonprofits
chosen from 152 nonprofits that requested to be
present during this event.
The Director’s Meeting was held at the Meriden
office of the United Way on February 4th
~ reminding us that it is time again to prepare
for the grant process.
I have had several meetings with Nancy Fryberg as
we discuss strategy to launch the “Do More”
project. Currently there are 37 local individuals
with talents and resources that would like to make
a difference locally. We will be meeting on April
2nd as a collective group.
With the weather disrupting the ability for the
Wallingford Youth and Social Services to operate
out of their facility we were able to house Marion
Zambory here at Master’ Manna on February 8, 9 &10
so that town services would continue. The Dept. of
Health contacted us as well asking for our
assistance with an issue that has recently arisen.
Many children are traveling out of the United
State to countries where TB may easily be
contracted. It is the town’s responsibility to
have these children tested prior to their return
to school. The town has a clinic available to
perform these tests on a monthly basis. This would
require children to miss several weeks of school
while waiting to be tested. The Dept. of Health
has asked if our clinic could provide the
necessary testing. The clinic has agreed to test
children weekly if necessary. I have already
spoken to Kelly Massoni who will be in contact
with local nurses willing to come in and read the
test results on a Saturday following the Thursday
injections.
Mary and I met with the Pastor Drake and his
family from the Church of the Nazarene on February
9th. The Wallingford Church will be
represented at Master’s Manna on Friday, March 18th.
There was discussion of the church congregation
implementing Saturday night dinner and movie here
at Master’s Manna. As our relationship develops so
does the opportunity to become recognized as a
Nazarene Compassionate Ministry.
God is moving in mysterious ways… His wonders to
behold. I am encouraged and am rejoicing at how
God’s plan ar exceeds anything we can arrange or
imagine. To God be all glory and honor.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl A. Bedore, President
